On the array forum, Dan Wiggins and Jim Griffin discussed the science behind near field arrays. It is interesting, so go look if you haven't seen it already. I took another look at Adire Audio after that and the Tempest horn sub grabbed my attention. Do any of you have experience with this sub? It might have been overlooked because it looks like it might be one of the best hornsubs going.

This design has been making the rounds at all the forums. It's a variation on an old theme done before by Peavey, Cerwin-Vega and a dozen others. The horn is too short to perform as a true sub; the F3 of 50 Hz is certainly nothing to get excited about from a 13 cu. ft box. Compared to modern designs such as the Lab or the EAW BH760 it really isn't competitive.

By day I'm an MLB Umpire. Seriously, though, this same question has popped up with such regularity in so many places that someone more cynical than myself might think that Adire is on a campaign to drum up Tempest sales. I have no opinion about their driver, but they definetely could have done a better job of coming up with a horn for it rather than recycling a thirty year old box.
