I decided to build a pair of speakers using premium drivers after comparing my RS180 Modula MT standmounts to a friend's similar size standmounts which were using the best Eton woofer with a Accuton ceramic tweeter. The drivers in my friend's speakers cost ten times the price of the Dayton RS drivers in the Modula MT, but they are worth every penny of it. This experience made it clear to me why some people will spend thousands on a small standmount speaker pair. Of course I wanted something with bigger balls than a mini monitor, so I called Rick Craig and told him what I wanted, and a couple of weeks later the plans and parts started arriving.

Wayne, will we have a 2009 LSAF? I believe I'll bring these and set up an audition room.

I notice you have built many pairs of speakers and most of them you like with an exception of the Nirvana drivers. To assist those who like to build speakers including myself you may like to summarise the strengths and weaknesses of each pair, eg suitability to certain kind of music, best overall performance and the reasons why, etc.

By explaining your reasons why, potential builders will choose the pair that suit their taste(to some extend similar to your taste as well).

I'd love to do another LSAF next year. It was always my intent, first weekend in May, as always. However, with 'lil Eddie being two years old, my hands are pretty full. Getting setup in my new home is also taking a lot of my after-hours and weekend time. I just have no time to check out hotels, make arrangements with the staff and all the other stuff that has to be done, at minimum, to get the show together. So if one of the Texas club members has time to make these arrangements, I'll make time to come to the show but I can't be the one that puts it together this year. If somebody does find a hotel and has them block off some rooms for us, we can certainly put the information up oon the LSAF website. I'd be happy to do whatever I can to support it, as always.
