My relatively new Logitech Z2300 2.1 speakers seem to crackle at mid volume. I'm not sure if this crackling is due to low quality mp3s or due to hardware. How can I test the speakers?

Sounds like the voice coil is rubbing, but it could be the output amp instead. Try the speakers on a different amp or the amp on different speakers and see if you can isolate which is causing the problem.

Most of the time it comes from low quality mp3's. I use to think it was due to the hardware when in fact it was the music that I was playing. Try to put in something that has been mixed and mastered like a factory cd and see what happens.
