Is it safe to hook up 4 speakers to my receiver?

My receiver has the usual 4 clips to add a pair of speakers, but i was wondering if it was safe to add another pair so two cable wires in each of the 4 output clips.

As long as the speakers are 8 ohm's each. You don't want to go under 4 ohms per channel on the receiver.
