It is a light bulb socket. And a 60 watt light bulb was used in the power supply circuit as a non-linear resistor.

I wrote the eBay guy and asked him. Now we know!

I certainly was curious about that one! The way the guy wrote the ad, I had the feeling that he didn't know much about what he had so I didn't want to bother him with a question he couldn't answer.
