Pioneer RT-909 Reel to Reel - advice required [message #14007]

Hi, I bought on of these recently (my first R2R). Rewind and FF work, but when I press Play, it doesn't work. Pinch Rollers seem to be working fine as tape is brought in contact with heads. There is also a faint but audible 'hum'. Any suggestions gratefuly received.
