I read today that major stores will no longer be stocking cassette tapes. I guess it's time to stop, but I do have some nostalgia for cassettes.

I used to store digital memory on them from a Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 synthesizer and Drumtrak drum machine, too.

Is everybody here ready to say goodbye to the format?

You'll always be able to find cassettes. I wouldn't worry too much.

I just bought my first reel-to-reel yesterday for $15 at an auction. Too bad I didn't know the r2rs were going so cheaply. I could have had pre-recorded tapes for pennies apiece - and there were about 1000!

That sounds like a great price, colinhester.

I'm curious - What do you plan to do with it? I'm sure it would be useful for some audio effects with another system, if nothing else.

Haven't the first clue what I'm going to do with it. I have about 1000 78s that I might transfer to r2r, but that would take forever. I just couldn't pass it up at that price ......Colin

I agree. You can't walk away from that price.

You must have a lot of music that's out of print on those 78s! Have you thought about transferring them to digital recordings? I know it would be very time consuming.

I've got lots of cassettes because I use them in my Olds. I wanted to keep the stock dashboard, which meant I couldn't use a CD faceplate. I have a nice casette recorder that makes very high quality recordings, so it's pretty good. I also keep a Panasonic reel-to-reel deck in good shape because I think it sounds great.

Hey Wayne. Keeping the vintage tunes in the Olds is definitely a nice touch, and I think cassettes are already nostalgic so that will just get more interesting.

I used to have a four track Akai deck but I traded it in years ago before I got into using it much.

Do you know a good source for R2R music? All the ones I've heard in recent years were muddy sounding and/or the highs seriously rolled off.......C

I've never purchased prerecorded music on reels. I always record my own. I record my favorite vinyl albums on reel-to-reel tape, then can play them often without wearing out the records.

The tape deck really sounds pretty good too. I just didn't want to butcher the dash.
