I recently bought a Tascam 133 for 20$ and found out that one channel is not playing. I get only mono sound. Even the VU meter is not moving. Any idea about what could be the problem?

I see. That's a good clue, a symptom that will greatly help you narrow down the problem. Maybe the input level control potentiometer has opened. Time to get out the scope!
