I recently got a Technics SL-1310 for 50 bucks. Now, should I just sell it on Ebay and get enough money back to go and purchase a used SL-1200? Or is the SL-1310 okay?

What's a cheap priced turntable cartridge that I could get and at the same time is a good needle?

Use the 1310. It's a lot better than the inexpenisve tables out today. A Grado cartridge is a good choice, they have several inexpensive models. You can find them at needledoctor.com or most other audio dealers.

I second the use of a Grado cartridge. They are incredibly musical for the money. A Grado Black is $40. I used one for several years. A Grado Blue is $80 and a worthwhile upgrade. I couldn't be happier with mine.

I am not aware of anyone having hum problems with Technics DD turntables, but wouldn't hurt to do a search on it and ask around, just in case. The Technics, I think, uses a DC motor, which shouldn't cause a hum problem with Grados.

Did you sell it Johnny? Did you make a nice profit? One can only hope.
