I'm considering letting my Grado Gold go with my Thorens TD-2001
turntable I'm giving to a good old friend of mine. I'm bidding on a Dual 1264 and not sure I want to keep the Grado Gold. Any suggesting on a replacement cartridge, MM for a couple few hundred for my NAD PP-2/ Passive attenuator / SET / Fostex 206E system? Thanks, Pete

I'm using a Rega Super Elys and it sounds very nice. Rega cartridges aren't terribly expensive.

I see that the Rega Super Elys 2 in now what's available.
I guessing you've probably used many different kinds of cartidges.
Do you think I'd be making an improvement over the Grado Gold ?
That's also for helping me in the past add some tweeters to my 206's.

I haven't really listened to all that many cartridges, but I do happen to have experience with the Grado Gold. It's OK but I would have to say I like the Rega Super Elys better. It's more detailed and fuller sounding at the same time. The Grado sounds kind of thin to me, not terribly detailed, almost digital sounding. I also have an old Audio Technica AT20SL that is surprisingly good. Most Audio Technica cartridges are like Shures, I think, pretty good but not great. But the AT20SL is very nice, detailed but not analytical. Too bad it has been out of production for a long time.

Well I ordered my Rega cartride, shipped my friend my Thorens TD-2001 before receiving my Dual in the mail which turned out to be damaged and not what I thought. So now I need a turntable for my cartridge. Any suggestions under 2K? Thanks, Pete

Pete,

Be sure and give your impressions of the Rega vs the Grado Gold when you have listened to the Rega a bit. I'd be real interested when it comes time to upgrade from my Grado Blue.
