I am looking into buying my boyfriend a turntable for Christmas, but I have no idea which one to get. I want something that has high playing quality, not necessarily with a lot of DJ features. Any suggestions?
New or used? I'd suggest that a nice Thorens TD145, 150 or 160 ($200 to $300 easy) would be a great TT to start with. It's the TT that Linn copied to make what is likely one of the most well regarded tabels ever. You don't say what your budget is, but TT's range from a few hundred to $10,000 or more. Rega makes some nice entry level tables, as does Project.
