I don't know. I saw one on CL for 50.00 with no picture so I tried to find one online to no avail. I did see one of a lt-30 which looks like a quality table.

MGW; are you trying to get into vynil as inexpensively as possible? That can be done if that is your goal. I mean without comprimising your records.

Well I have LP's left over from my youth and several TT's none of which are quiet. I remember having a couple three Duals in succession that were quiet a 1019, 1219 and a 1229Q. Now I have 2 1229's that suck, a Denon DP 35 that's ok but noisy and a Technics SL-23 and a Marantz 6025 that I assume are bottom feeders. The reason I want to stay with vintage is I can probably get a better machine for less money than buying new. If I know what to look for. I doubt that any of my vinyl is collector quality. If you'd rahter take a chance that I'd make more sense on the phone my number is in the post about old Vinyl. You can call collect.

MGW; I'm not sure what you mean by quiet? The mechanism of the tables is noisy or the records are noisy? The main problem with the old Dual and Garrards is the arm; if you can butcher one of the tables you can probably put a better arm on it; you know, take out the auto-return mecahnism and fabricate a tonearm board.
My other suggestion would be to purchase an older AR XA and then do the simple very cheap mods that make this table pretty good for next to nothing. Then the price of the table should not exceed 90$ for a reasonable condition example; twenty bucks for the mods and it should sound darn good. Hell; I still listen to mine downstairs and that big fat spacious sound is still lots of fun. Especially on the older Rock/pop/classical records from the 60's and 70's.
Where there is a will there's a way.

The noise is some form of rumble I think. On quiet passages in the music it's very audible. Maybe it's in the preamp but I don't think so. I have the TT on a wall mount I made so it's isolated from the rest of the equipment and speakers. I think your idea of fooling around with the Dual is a good one and I'll look inti it. I just need to pick a direction and go Thanks for your advice.

Old dual idler drive tables need maintanance after they are 10-15 years old. A new idler wheel and proper platter and motor lube would probably do it. A repair manual can be purchased for around $10 that will tell what oils to use and show how to fix almost anything on them. The 1229 is a decent table when fixed up, as are the 1219 and 1019.
