What do you think? Nice surplus bronz bushing and shaft and a good 48 pole synchro 300 rpm motor with some thread. Anyone with a good lathe should be able to whip up a nice drive and bearing system; or source it outright from VPI. Might be fun.

Sounds like a sweet project plan to me. It's a simple technology, so complexity isn't required. Best quality comes from best craftsmanship.

Talk about a great group build project; who here would not want a great turntable for a fraction of the cost of a new quality unit; ehh?
