I've been running this op amp based Phono Amp on two 9V and the sound's been pretty good. However, I built the +/-15V regulated power supply over the weekend, and now the turntable rocks! With battery power, it gave off a very warm, relaxed and lush sound. The extra headroom from the power supply punches it up several notch.

The platter geeks are right. Vinyl can sound awesome!

Highly recommended for anyone looking for an excellent DIY box for under $100. I've already collected parts for the tube based Cornet and hope to complete it by Spring.

Gar.

Pretty cool!

Did you use a 7815 and a 7915 for your supply?

Both. 7815 for the positive rail, 7915 for the negative rail as per Hagerman's design.

Yep, yep. That's what I thought. When I need only an amp or less at 5, 12 or 15 volts, I use 7xxx regulators. A 7xxx regulator, bridge rectifier, transformer and a couple of electrolytic caps and you have an excellent little regulated supply.
