I started to think of something else here. Doesn't
this make a potentially big mess? If you have a free
standing cabinet with a tray of sand, oil, and lead shot
what if it dumps over in your living room?

As for me, I'd feel like the captain of the Exxon Valdez.

The mixture is mostly shot, the sand fills in between the shot and the oil is only a binder. There should only be enough oil to make a goop out of it. The mixture is very thick and has no place to run to. The top of the box is only an 1/8" gap to the sides. Just enough so the top does not contact the side.

I dunno. I think it needs some refinements. Even sand only is an accident waiting to happen. Don't sneeze near it. It should be something like a waterbed.... a bag filled with whatever slo-mo substances like oil etc with the leads in it that would absorbs shocks from the floor.

My precarious turntable setup is nothing to brag about.

I would like to find some piece of furniture that puts the TT at about 36 in. when I am seated.

Absolutely beautiful! Entry level is about five grand. And I notice they've used a sand and oil filled base.
