Do you use a sand-filled base such as this? Does it help supress low-frequency feedback? Do you notice any other effects?

Build one of these with the miracle home-brew damping compound of,
lead shot/sand/oil. The platform the tt sits on would be floating on this mixture. Platform does not touch the sides of the box either.

Are you saying that you've built one? Did you notice an improvement right away? Mostly a reduction of bass feedback? Or is the improvement more subtle?

No I havnt built one. It's just a recipie and doesnt cost much of anything to build, in time or material.

Another recepie is to use 3/4" or 1" high density fiberglass with layers of MDF. (fiberglass accoustical ceiling tiles ata home center will work) Cut the tiles 20 x 20 and MDF 24 x 24. Stack up layers of this with 3 or 4 layers each. Have the Home depot guy cut the MDF for you and I think you can manage to cut a tile with a utility knife. Cost you 20 bucks, a trip to HOme Depot and 10 minutes assembly time.

Havnt tried this one either. My turntable is still up in Canada

Gotcha. It does sound like a good idea. If I understood you right, you basically propose setting the base down into a large bed of sand. I'll bet that would work very well.

Glad this generated a bit of interest in here. Seems like
it's hard to get topics going.

Anyway I was wondering where's a good place to get lead shot.
A gun store? We have lots of these but I've rarely been
in one.

Hi Lon,

You can buy 25 lb sacks at any gun store or sporting good center that selld reloading supplies. Just get the cheapest brand and I think a number 6 or 7 shot would be a good size.
