Did any of you see the Leonid meteor showers this week? I usually make it a point to drive out into the country for an hour long drive in November to see them, out away from city lights. But this year I was too busy.

I didn't see them this year because they were mid-week. But several years ago, when the date (and the meteors) fell on a weekend, I had the opportunity to watch them for several hours from the top of a hill in rural northwest New Jersey. Coming from NYC, I'd never really had a chance to see a meteor shower. It was quite a show.

I remember them a couple of year ago too. They were spectacular then! The Tempel-Tuttle comet came near in 1998, and it left a fresh comet trail of debris for the Earth to pass through every November. So the show has been great since 1999!

I saw the one in August, the Persieds I think.

If interested, there's a link to a great free astronomy 'puter program here. It's large, with all kinds of possibilities - even interfacing with a motordriven telescope, I think. The program is French, but you can just install the English language version:
