How much "better" does a true Class A amplifier really sound compared to a good Class AB amplifier?

Does anyone know of any high power Class A amps in existance, above 50WPC? All the ones I've seen are lower than 20WPC.

Class A amps naturally have no crossover distortion. The best Class AB amps reduce this to next to nothing, and I guess that's the key for comparison. But you're right that Class A amps are usually pretty limited in power.

Have you listened to a Class A amp before Wayne?

Oh, sure. Tons of 'em. I have a few of'em here. Some "store bought" and some homemade. They're actually the easiest kind of amp to design and build.

The better class amp amps excell in fine details and resolving power.

See Diyaudio.com Passlabs forum for details of +50 watt designs
