Re: 28kHz standing waves and diffraction schlieren demo
Nothing like a good visual to make sense of a concept. Now I get diffraction and standing waves better than ever. On a similar note sort of by way of the strobe effect. I went to a ballet performance once and saw a really cool demonstration of dance using ...

28kHz standing waves and diffraction schlieren demo
Not so pi-specific, but I think I've watched Wayne post the phrase "standing wave" more times than anyone on the web so thought to post here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrgyKFBPQW4 Part 3 is a bit cooler when he levitates some balls in...

Re: Aztec Monet Cabinets
I'll bet a three-way design with a ribbon tweeter or short array would be great! My DI-matched two-ways are great too, but I'm just worried about the standing waves in a cabinet that hasn't been tested for that particular purpose. And I don't want ...

Re: Aztec Monet Cabinets
Do you have any measurement software? You could always try it and see how it measures. I'd hate to cut the baffle and discover it had anomalies though. I'd prefer a restoration to original the three-way design than I would trying to make a DI-matc...

Re: Aztec Monet Cabinets
Looks like the pi4 is 3.14 cu ft, and my cabs are 4.72 cu ft. Mine are taller and wider than pi4 but not as deep. I'm guessing that I could block with foam to match the internal volume but still end up with standing waves. John

Re: Aztec Monet Cabinets
You've got mail! But I must admit that I would advise against using this cabinet for a four Pi loudspeaker build. I'm concerned about the quality of the midrange in that cabinet. Internal standing waves might cause problems. The original design h...

Re: 3pi update / 6pi build
Yes, standing waves occur at frequencies between 30Hz and 120Hz. That's what room modes are and they can be quite troublesome. It's what the multisub configuration is designed to mitigate. But to create standing waves in the bass requires a large en...

Re: 3pi update / 6pi build
I´m moving forward with my flanking woofers build and have a question concerning standing waves. The cabinets will be W45cm X H75cm X D45cm. As they get rather narrow and tall I got worried about standing waves. Should I add damping like it is in the 3P...

Re: 2 Pi tower
I wouldn't suggest making any change to box dimensions in this model. It "rides the line" between being a transmission line and a bass reflex design. There are both internal standing waves and Helmholtz resonance in play in the bass region, s...
