Re: The corners
Corners are associated with all room modes - axial, tangential and oblique. So they are effective places to damp bass sound. But the best way to damp room modes is with panel absorbers. Look them up: Panel Absorbers

Re: Room acoustic problems
Small rooms have greater problems with room modes. Search for "reverberent field" to learn more about room treatments and loudspeaker configurations that work well from 200Hz up. Search for "room modes" to learn more about room ...

Re: Concrete Vs other types of wall
Rooms with concrete walls suffer from very strong room modes because the walls are rigid and there is almost no damping. They can also be very reflective at middle and high frequencies. For that reason, when people install sound systems in basements wh...

Re: Room gain?
A constrained space will increase SPL by virtue of directivity. But room modes in a small room will cause large deviations in SPL because of room modes. Some places will be very loud and some very soft at a given bass frequency. So the best thing to d...

Re: LSAF 2017
Kelly Parham greets you in the π Speakers room I really loved the show this year. I always do, even with all the work, but this year was even better for me. We had our usual fun dinner night out on Saturday, this year with Scott and Donna Shaeffer...

Re: Room size effect
Larger. Room modes are stronger in smaller rooms. But by saying "larger," I mean really large, like several thousand square feet. Small and medium size rooms (like one would expect in a home) are improved with damping material. Framed d...

Re: The bass levels
Wow! This basically sums up everything I have been putting my mind to task on. I think I will just have to get multiple subwoofers for that matter since I've never been able to fully optimize the sound in my room.

Re: The bass levels
Equalizing the bass is not the best way to solve the problem. The best way is to use multiple subwoofers. The reason is bass problems are almost always caused by room modes, not by the subwoofers. Room modes are caused by self-interence, interactions ...

Re: Small speaker flanking sub limitations.
When mains are very small like that, you really need to use subs just to prevent over-excursion of the mains. If you want to use a flanking sub approach in that case, you really need two subs per side. The whole idea is to increase the number of soun...

Re: How many subwoofers
More is better. Place them around the room to smooth room modes. Going from one to two makes a huge difference. If you have two, I suggest making them flanking subs. Two to three makes a big difference in smoothness too, especially in the deepest b...
