Re: Subwoofers vs budget... where do you draw the line?
The multisub approach is intended to mitigate room modes. The problem is the direct sound from the subwoofer and the reflections from each boundary combine differently at each point in the room. So there are hot spots and dead spot in the room, and the...

Re: Subwoofers vs budget... where do you draw the line?
If I have DI-matched two-way speakers, I always start with flanking subs. I mean, you can run the speakers with no subs at all if you're making an apartment system or something like that, but if we're talking stepping up a notch or two, start with flank...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
Absolutely. Best results are obtained when both flanking subs and distributed multisubs are used, with the distributed subs running a summed LF signal, and the flanking subs running the same (low-passed) signal as the mains they are flanking. Some peop...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
You can use flanking subs on every main speaker you have, for every channel. But I think the most important channels are the L/R mains, because they are so important to the presentation. Still, you could run flanking subs on every channel. That woul...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
I can see how this works with stereo. But it's not as clear to me when it comes to multi channel audio where the LF content from at least 3 more discrete channels and LFE are all summed in the subwoofer signal.

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
Absolutely. That's precisely what you want to do. The more bass sound sources there are, the better. So the two flanking subs become two of the four distributed multisubs at low frequencies. The summed LF output is only being run to the distributed...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
Can you explain what the decorrelation filters are, how they work, how effective can they be in multisub and what kind of processors are used to make them? Thank you very much.

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
Flanking subs and distributed multisubs are different animals. They have a similar purpose and correspondingly similar execution but have some specific differences because of the frequency ranges where they are intended to be most effective. Flanking s...

Re: 3pi, smaller cab possible?
Changing the size of the baffle will alter the speaker's directivity at low to midrange frequencies. At low frequencies, the speaker radiates omnidirectionally but as frequency rises, the baffle begins to limit the radiation pattern to the forward-facin...

Re: speaker location and type
Speaker placement depends largely on the type of speaker you choose. Some need to be in free space, not near walls. Others work better when placed close to walls. Some are designed to be placed in corners. Some should be pointed at the listening area...
