Re: Bose Line Array
See http://www.xlrtechs.com/dbkeele.com/papers.htm and scroll down to the CBT papers JBL's design operates with a passive crossover so all you need to do is bi-amp with adding your own subwoofer. I would guess that they use resistors to taper the ou...

Re: Pi subwoofer kits
Freespace sensitivity is 89dB. If you just use a pair of subs, you'll need about 10dB gain in the amp stage to match the stereo mains. If you use four subs, you won't need as much gain and you'll also get better smoothing from multiple bass sound sourc...

Re: Questions on the 12 and 3 pi subs
Check your mail - I've sent plans. When using subs for prosound, use baltic birch. It's much more durable and it's lighter than MDF too.You decision about whether to use one 12π hornsub or a small group (say four) of the three π subs should be entirely di...

Re: How many subs are enough?
Outdoors, I would prefer the subs packed close together, ideally within 1/4λ from each other and from the mains. The idea is to create a single sound source so there is no cancellation interference between sound sources. In this case, a single sub would...

Re: Treatment for a cancellation notch - Multiple subs
The best thing to do is to add subs. I think you and I discussed this before, but just to be sure I'll hit the high points. The idea of adding subs isn't just to augment the low end but also to smooth room modes. Having just two subs added to the two b...

Re: LSAF 2008 - Show Coverage, Seminar Recordings, Slideshows and Handouts
Don't leave out Skip Pack and Bob Brines. They generally have very good sounding systems. I regret that I didn't get a chance to stop by and listen. Too much to do!About Duke's speakers, I was able to listen briefly and what I heard sounded very good. ...

Re: When is your multiple subwoofer design coming out?
Hi Akhilesh,I ran into a production problem. A mistake was made in manufacturing the boxes, and that has delayed things. My two beta-testers were happy and want sets, and one will be getting his next week. I did sell one completed set to a customer as I ...

Re: Multiple subs and reverb?
The subjective effect of multiple subwoofers might be interpreted as faster decay, though that wouldn't really be what's going on.Large bass response peaks typically occuring due to room interactions are interpreted by the ear as "fat" or "slow" bass, and...

Re: Multiple subs and reverb?
There's a thread about this in the Room Acoustics forum, called "Computer Simulation of Room Acoustics."If the subs are placed within 1/4λ of the mains at the crossover point, then they will sum very well. They'll effectively be the same acoustic source....
