Re: The bass levels
Equalizing the bass is not the best way to solve the problem. The best way is to use multiple subwoofers. The reason is bass problems are almost always caused by room modes, not by the subwoofers. Room modes are caused by self-interence, interactions ...

Re: Attaching a subwoofer
I have always had an interest of optimizing multiple subs in a room. I have heard people going for those with 3 to 4 submodules. Another challenge would be in setting up the subwoofers in a room.

Re: Mono "flanking sub"
Subwoofer cabinet shape isn't really important because the cabinet is acoustically small. Standing waves cannot setup inside. Welti started off doing just position but later added equalization. Geddes proibably followed suit. It's an Nth degree thi...

Re: 4Pi without subwoofer
Multiple subs - both flanking subs and distributed subs - improve sound quality for any loudspeaker setup. The multisub approach smoothes room modes. See the "Room Effects and Loudspeaker Interactions" section of the π Speakers FAQ for more i...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers, revisited
You can build what I would describe as a "detatched 2.5-way" speaker. Essentially it is a DI-matched two-way with a second midwoofer in a separate box, physically located as presecribed for flanking subs, i.e. just beside, behind and below the...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
I would agree (and expect) some differences in details, but I'm not sure how significant those details are. At least, less significant than the main idea, which is to use multiple sound sources spread apart spatially, and to use EQ, where appropriate fo...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
Hi Wayne, The situation regarding Harman and multiple subs has been somewhat confusing. The first multi-sub processor box they made that I'm aware of was the BassQ. As far as I can tell, it used FIR filters and a pretty sophisticated algorithm for com...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
I just watched a video of an audio gathering, where several presenters gave talks on one thing or another. One of the presenters was Earl Geddes, who did a talk on multisubs: SMWTMS Meeting, January 19, 2013 (That's Southeastern Michigan Woofer and...

Re: Tuning below Fs with JBL 2226H?
Thanks for the reply. So basically it can work quite good, but it's not optimal for subwoofer range and there are better options for that. I have been recommended JBL 2234 as a first choice for this (or 2235 as a second option), but they seem practical...

Looking for some Pi advice for theater ...
So I did spend a fair bit of money on a theater layout and am very happy with it. The speakers are specified to be behind a screen wall. I would like to use some of my DIY skills to make the LCR speakers and to that end I have done a lot of reading, mult...
