Re: Speaker placement
"Perhaps randomly placed midbass drivers will smooth the sound field in the midbass, up to 120Hz. It's a reasonable suggestion. Then again, your proposed configuration is relatively complex with several woofers and crossover points. I also think having mu...

Re: Speaker placement
I understand now that you are really talking about three different kinds of woofers. One kind is used as woofers in the mains, which are to be symmetrically placed. Another is a VLF sub, used to augment the extreme bottom end, rolled off where the main...

Re: Speaker placement
Your loose usage of terminology makes answering your question difficult. Define Bass and low mids either in terms of frequency ranges or relative to the modal region. The mains must be placed at the best non-modal location relative to the room boundaries f...

Re: Sub placement
Some years back, at Ford, we measured the LF signals for about 100 CD's. I believe that every one of them, or at least virtually every one, had mono LF signals. There is simply no way to distinguish between a mono LF signal and a stereo one so why not ha...

Re: The Subwoofer thing
I think that you may be missing the point. It is important to know what the best approach is so that we can move in that direction no matter how far to that extreme we go.As far as multiple subs go, I would never buy several expensive subs. But I would s...

Re: Sub placement
That's a tough one, as best location is really room specific. One thing I'd suggest is that you don't crossover the sub to the mains but allow them all to overlap. This will provide multiple bass sources which will help smoooth room modes.

Sub placement
We've looked at this before, but I think it is always an interesting topic.Outdoors, the problem is you have a lot of area to energize. There is no room gain. But you don't have standing wave modes within the walls to worry about either. Just the nodes...

Levers and multiple subs
Earl, Sounds interesting about those levers. Do you get 6dB for the whole frequencyrange? I downloaded your software so I've seen what a lever looks like now (pictures are easier to understand). The frontlever looks like a bandpass sub but instead of a po...
