Re: Three Pi and Three Pi Sub Plans
Flanking subs work just as well when placed inside as they do when set outside the mains. They just need to be a couple feet beside, behind and below the mains. I'll send plans for the surrounds, and yes, kits include the crossovers. Sounds like ...

Re: 4PI Plans Request
The flanking sub low-pass recommendation of 100Hz second-order is empirical, so you can consider it a starting point and not a hard-fixed number. However, I have found that the slope is always better being gradual than it is being sharper. Fourth-order...

Re: 4PI Plans Request
I think that's a good way to go. Run the flanking subs with a 100Hz/2nd-order low-passed copy of the signal sent to the main speaker each sub is flanking. Run the mains set to "large" so you blend with the flanking subs. The mains should be ...

Re: 4PI Plans Request
Thank you! Offtopic: Perhaps I'll change my two Ultimax 18's (build thread) from LFE signal to flanking subs, making them extensions of the (current) HTM-10's, versus being on the LFE channel alone. It would however require setting the front speakers t...

Re: 4PI Plans Request
You've got mail! I agree with Barry about the JBL 2226H. It is an excellent midwoofer. The flux stabilization ring in the motor structure reduces distortion down to the levels normally only seen in horns. When combined with a horn tweeter, you have...

Re: MiniDSP
Digital filters are awesome because of their flexibility. In the case of loudspeakers - and particularly controlled directivity loudspeakers - you have to be careful with your choice of filters because they affect summing through the crossover region....

Re: Three Pi and Three Pi Sub Plans
Wayne, After much consideration, I ended up building a pair of Three Pis per your plans. They are a bit dominating in my current room, but will eventually go behind an AT projector screen (hopefully with enough space to cross their forward axes properly...

Re: Low Pass
The 100Hz at 12dB/octave (2nd-order) slope recommendation is specifically for flanking subs, which are a type of multisub arrangement. Distributed multisubs are usually run lower and with a quicker slope, often 60Hz at 4th-order or 80Hz 4th-order. The ...

Re: Low Pass
The problems you're talking about are pretty common. They're impedance-matching problems. The load of the passive crossover is interacting with the output impedance of the preamp. And those inline filters are really lossy too, so I don't like using th...

Re: Three Pi and Three Pi Sub Plans
If you can mount the speakers in the wall, that's perfect because it removes self-interference from the wall as well as removing any baffle step. It really is the best option. You can setup the subs as distributed multisubs rather than flanking subs. ...
