It never hurts to use a high-pass filter for vented subs set at or just below the Helmholtz frequency. So if your sub cabinets are tuned to 20Hz, set a fourth-order high-pass at 15-20Hz.

It doesn't matter what direction you face subs if they are crossed over below 80Hz or so. But if they are run higher than that - and you need the upper-end response - then orientation can matter. The only times I would want subs run high are when they ...

If you have the H290C waveguide, it sounds like you're upgraded as far as you can go, at least as far as "factory upgrades" are concerned. You could replace the B&C driver with a TAD TD-2002, but I've never offered it because of the price....
