Re: The subwoofer volume and crossover
I agree with all of your observations. And, based on lots of experience, I can add a confirmation about your guess on the 24dB/octave slope not being right for flanking subs. That slope works great for distributed subs but just isn't right for flanking...

Re: The subwoofer volume and crossover
Hi Wayne, Thanks for the detailed response. I started doing the sub tricks with old gear lying around the house. First it was two flanking subs (in mono) placed in between the 2 Pi Towers. Then added a small sub near the couch as a distributed su...

Re: The subwoofer volume and crossover
I was generalizing the concepts and using "round numbers" in my earlier post above. Flanking subs are setup to blend generally in the 100-200Hz region, but in practice the blending region is shifted a little lower than that. Distributed mul...

Re: The subwoofer volume and crossover
Hi Wayne, Curious about the flanking sub and distributed sub recommended crossover points. You're suggesting that 100 hz is good for the flanking subs and 50 as the cutoff for the distributed subs. Didn't you recommend higher crossover points a fe...

Re: Why is drywall bad?
That's true. Rooms with framed drywall construction are much better than rooms with brick, stucco, concrete or rock walls. The drywall panels vibrate enough that they absorb some of the bass frequencies, and so act a little bit like panel absorbers. ...

Re: Plans request
Do you have appropriate corners for constant directivity cornerhorns? If so, I suggest building those. If not, go with four π mains and flanking subs. Please decide which direction you want to go and let me know. I'll send plans as soon as you decide...

Re: Placement of the speakers
Left and right mains should flank the video screen, and be at the same vertical height as the screen. The center channel should be centered and at the same height as the screen. That's only possible of the screen is acoustically transparent, so some pe...

Re: What is the best way to get better bass in my home system?
I agree with Bruce with respect to the quality metrics of an individual subwoofer. I'd like to also bring to your attention the concept of multiple subwoofers. I believe that is the most effective thing you can do to achieve good bass response in you...

Re: Mid horn driver options
"the response is nice and flat at all radiating angles, providing uniform response throughout the room." I figured as much. To me, that may be the most important feature of any "in home" (in room) speaker. I am not surprised wi...
