Re: 4pi Stand Base
Stands should be 12" to 15" with 3° to 7° setback angle. As for the construction of the stand, that is really up to you. It depends mostly on materials and taste. A metal stand can be made with very thin tubular and still be structurally a...

Re: 7Pi Build 2014
Well, that's probably true. It's a simple circuit and you can easily troubleshoot it there. I just didn't want to see you get stuck, so the deal always stands. One thing you might do is to put a single series capacitor inline with the compression dr...

Re: 2Pi - Tilting speaker up for better on axis response and time alignment
The speakers are best when listened to on-axis, but horizontal movement up to about 30° is fine too. Further off-axis horizontally gives smooth HF rolloff, so it doesn't get "ugly," it just loses top end. Vertical movement is another story....

Re: Helper Woofer Location
It's hard to say if that will be too low or not. It always seems to me the most realistic impression is created when the speakers are generally the same height as the screen. Sometimes, if the screen is a little above the listeners, the speakers do...

Re: 4Pi plans
Actually, I think most people run four π speakers on stands about that height - 12" to 15", with maybe a 3° to 5° tilt back. This is the preferred method with flanking subs. I've sent plans for the four π mains. If you don't already have s...

Re: How does one emulate the typical theater sound?
Without subs, I'd place them against as many boundaries as possible. Back against the wall, low to the ground on small risers, not stands. But I'd much prefer them to be on stands that place them at ear level with flanking subs beside them.

Re: How does one emulate the typical theater sound?
You're absolutely right. With a projector and screen, you can put the center speaker behind the screen. That's definitely the best approach. When running a plasma or LCD screen though, I'd have to say I don't think there is a good center channel optio...

Re: Off-the-shelf 4 Pi Stand
That looks like it would work just fine. If you get a set of those, report back how they work for you. I use wood stands with the top plate pretty close in size to the cabinet size. The back edge has a lip that cradles the speaker. I also use rubbe...

Re: My Three Pi Speakers Finished
That finish is just stunning, Floyd! Cool how they have the false bottom to act as built-in stands. They look like towers, but are built as designed where it counts. Excellent!

Re: Let's talk about 4Pi Speaker Stands =p
I like using stands that are 12" to 15" tall, and have 3°-7° tilt. The reason is this puts the acoustic center at ear height, and maintains a nice forward lobe that is centered. A very important secondary reason is the angle helps to cradle t...
