Saw the Radial somewhere before, looks like a cool, very unique effort. Sort of Walsh-ish. Lots of power to move it, though.

    Fun in Caintucky

    The Decware radial speakers:

    RL-1: 92 dB/w/m, 3/8 inch Audax tweeter, special up firing 8 inch woofer, $1,000

RL-2: 93 dB/w/m, 3 inch ribbon tweeter, special up firing 8 inch woofer, 8 inch passive radiator, $1,500

Both (from my impressions at the Caintuck Audio Fest): Sufficient bass for most music, images like crazy, extremely large sweet spot, overall good tonality and detail

I was at this event and pushed to hear them (had never heard Pi speakers before).

They probably didn't have the ultimate in detail or the most amazing imaging, but tonality was fine and the price couldn't be beat. Note that we were listening via an $8,000 front end.

They also mated well with a Decware Select amp in terms of volume (1.8 wpc) and concept (simplicity). For those of you unfamiliar the Select is just 7 components with no internal wiring used.

Yes the cabinets weren't finished, but were built strictly to specifications. (After some of the nasty outcomes from tweaking I've seen I actually admire those who can leave well enough alone.) The owner wanted to build the 2 Pi Towers next, see which he preferred, and then "experiment" with finishing the cabinet he least preferred first.

Thanks for the report! [message #38988 is a reply to message #38987] Sun, 10 November 2002 03:28 Go to previous message
