Referring to the post below on wooden high freq. horns, Does anyone know of any website or print source for DIY horns similar to those posted. Or easy to understand formulas for designing your own flares? I looked through the Single Driver Website but didn't find just what I was looking for, though they do have many formulas etc. Thanks.

on a web site by Yuichi's Audio Lab, an absolute prince to have put his method up on the web. Trying to find a current link, but the old one is "dead". If you can find his site, you will see craftmanship like the post below, done by hand (not that the others wern't, just that his are). Sam

Thanks for posting the link to this fine site. And you are correct, the current URL for Arai Yuichi's web site is http://www.geocities.jp/arai401204. The photo above is an example of one of his beautifully crafted wood horns, the "A480" which is designed for a 1" compression driver. He makes hyperbolic and exponential radials horns, and the measured response curves show them to be quite suitable for use with π speakers. It's indeed a pity that they aren't for sale, but as you've said - He gives detailed instructions how to build them.

Detailed instructions, yes; but no info on the profiles of the flairs used. Maybe I'll just copy the flairs used on my Eminence 290. Can anyone tell me what the curved projection ("lips") on the upper and lower pieces do for the sound of the horns as opposed to the flat front horns as in the Eminence? Thanks!

I think its a great idea to copy the H290, making it from wood. Ironically, molds for ABS horns are made from wood models cut on CNC machines.

I'll give it a try and let you know how they turn out. It may be a while though - lots of stuff in the works!

Have a happy holiday, Wayne, and thanks for all the help. Theater 4's are soon to begin assembling!
