I picked one up this weekend and repainted the cover as it was pretty dog eared. It's no museum piece but it sure sounds good to me. It's 125 WPC. I plugged a cd player directly into it and like the crispness the extra power adds.

I bought it to use with my Maggies after I fix the tweeter. I got the kit from a friend so now all I have to do is settle down and run the wire. I probably should install new caps. What is recommended for speakers crossover caps?

What amp is that? Is that the Class A model?

What year model? I really liked Yamaha amps and receivers from around 1980.

Well maybe I'll get it right yet. This one is from 1982 and has 120 WPC. It also doesn't have any of the harshness normally associated with higher power SS amps. My Altecs with the 811 horns will quickly point out any stridency in an amp It has volume controls which allow direct connection to a high output source like a cd player.

I rememmber the B1/B2 series; any relation? I have a 840 with the silver face and oak case laying around here somewhere. Nice sounding amp.
I am considering having my Luxman M 120A re-done for the Altecs; what do you think?

I don't have a owners manual for it but I know that some of the M-series started in class A until you cranked them up and then they switched out of class A operation.

I've tried many receivers and several ss amps including the M-50, Kenwood 6004 and my MC-2505 with my Altecs. So far none of them come close to the wonderful sound I get with the MC-275 tube amp.

Altecs just sound better with tubes. It's what they were designed for originally. I listened to and loved mine since 1966 and only had the tube amp working for a year. I miss it and finally have a line on a local repair guy if I can ever get in touch with him.

As for the Luxman I think they are top notch amps so it should sound good with it. If I had never tried the tube amp I would still be happy with the 2505
