I had a pair of ADS L 2030 Monsters back in late 70's, early 80's.
Designed as Telarc monitors for Jack Renner.
They used 6 midrange domes in a "weighted line", and a point source tweeter w/ samarium cobalt magnet.
They simply fed more power to one or more of the domes.

Harry Olson presented the theory of line sources (arrays) in his classic book in 1957. Other references predate his tome. More recent work by researchers from JBL and especially L'Acoustics have significantly improved our understanding of how to apply them. Most of the work has been applied to pro sound applications. Most concerts and fixed venues these days use line arrays.

Great papers on the l-acoustics website. Lots of math though.

You are too kind. The real heros are those researchers from L'Acoustics, JBL, and elsewhere who have pushed the state of the art in line arrays over the past decade.

L'Acoustics has 4 AES papers on their website.
3 of them are on linearray wave front formation.

The best L'Acosutics reference is their October 2003 AES paper which summarizes their WST work over the last 14 years. It is very readable and should give you a good feel for work. Go to the link below and click on the title to download.
