Ideally, I'd like to add a set of 2405's to my current 2-way setup of 2235 and 2445 + DIY Smith Horns. I think the sensitivity, frequency range and directivity of the 2405 will integrate very well with the 2445 set up. However, these things are bloody expensive, even in the used market.

Are there any low-cost alternative to these tweeter? Something that'll give me 85% of the performance at 20% of the cost? I've been tweaking around with a pair of Eminence APT-80 and they sound pretty good, but dispersion is very narrow. I think these APT may be the alternative that I'm looking for, but would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sensitivity is lower than what I'd like but I really like the -6dB rolloff between 10K to 20K. This means that I can just use a simple first order high-pass set at just below 20K.

Thanks for the lead. Looks like a nice driver and only 1/2 the price of the JBL. Still too expensive though and for that price I'd rather spend a little bit more for a pair of used JBL.

I've never tried it but I wonder how it would sound if you built a mini Smith for the APT. The disperson would match!

I had exactly the same thought but don't know where to begin with the design. I know a bunch of guys on audioheritage.org have built smith horns for 1" exit compression drivers like the JBL 2426. Wonder if the same design can be used for an APT?

I don't see why not. I think it would be a question of scale. The crossover frequency should determent the size. if you give it a try, I'd be very interested in you results! Hi-freqency roll-off might also be an issue.

There are some very knowledgable people over at audiheritage. Someone might know how to calculate it. Wayne (Pi) might also know.

The ST-320 has a solid aluminum frame compared to the 324.
I use these in one of my speaker sets and they easily beat
the much tooted EV T-35s that they replaced.
