It sure hurts the ear, unless you are deaf, when microphone feedbacks. How does feedback works and why does it happen? I've seen a few videos where someone places a microphone infront of a speaker and there was no feedback. Is it because of the volume or something else?

Simply put, you are too close to the speaker in question. Learn to get really good with the on/off toggle switch, which is a skill in itself.
