Looking for a recommendation on mid level SACD players? Any difference in sound quality or picture quality on some that play DVD would be helpful.
I have Sony now and am happy with the SACD quality. The DVD is not progressive so the picture quality is not as good as another player I have. I would like to get an SACD/ DVD player that is better for both.

Thanks,
Bill

I've been kind of looking around myself and have heard a few good things about the Phillips DVD 963SA.Although I haven't heard the unit myself, Red book is supposed to be very good as well as SACD and DVD. A few problems with playing CDR's were reported. The cost is under $400.

I picked up a Pioneer DV-563A to try for a little while. I'm not too impressed yet. The SACD sound is not as good as the Sony I have on first impression. The picture, Although better than the non-progressive Sony is better but not as good as the JVC I'm also trying to replace.

I will take a closer look at the Phillips you mention. I went for the Pioneer over the newer progressive scan Sony because I liked the single disk try over the changer type.

I'm not too concerned about Redbook because I use an external DAC which sounds a lot better than the DAC inside any of these.

Hi Bill,

Dept of Nitpickers here. Isn't this a Digital topic, more than general?

It originally listed for $1500 and even that was a bargain considering the build and signal quality. The picture and audio quality are far superior to anything you'll find new at that price.
