This price range is going to be limited, but you might get lucky. A used Thorens TD-160, TD-145, TD 166 (I think that's the number), an AR (newer than the AR-XA is better), a Denon DP series, many of the Technics 1200 series or Lenco L75 or larger model number.
I don't know my Denon models that well, but the better ones I think have model numbers bigger than DP-60. If I'm mistaken on that, I'm sure someone will let me know.
If you are the type of guy that really gets lucky, watch for a Rega or Project table, and maybe a Linn Axis. I doubt if you'll find one in your price range, but I've seen stranger things happen.
If you are into DIY, you could fix up an old idler drive (the better ones). They all need maintenance and a massive plinth built for them. When done right, they can compete with almost any table. They include Garrard 301 or 401 (tend to be expensive, but I've heard of folks finding them cheap at yard sales), some Rek-O-Kuts, Lencos from L75 and up, Thorens 124 (also expensive). Some of the less expensive Garrards, like the zero 100 and Lab 95B can be made to work real well with a lot of tender loving care and some hard work building new plinths. These can be bought quite reasonably priced.
A couple of new tables are getting attention as well. I hear the Audio Technica is OK, but haven't had a chance to see one.
I've found some of the Thorens tables for as little as $5.00 at garage sales. Also found one of the heavy Duals for $20.00 the same way. Garage sales and thrift shops frequently get old turntables. Many of the sellers don't know the difference between an inexpensive one and one worth much more. It doesn't hurt to shop these places for a while. Many people consider old turntables as worthless junk these days. You might get lucky. I have, a few times. Patience!
