The only way that you are going to get 5.1 sound out of a VCR or a TV for that matter is to run the output through a receiver that supports Dolby Pro Logic. Real 5.1 will require a DVD player or a HDTV signal (and processor). I suspect that you need to do a bit of research before you proceed.
