The quality of these is excellent. Many companies were making excellent speakers 40 years ago that are are still considered very good.
Aging can cause some issues, though. The surrounds can rot and need replacing (not that hard to do). I believe some of their older ones had rubber surrounds that don't rot. There are possibly some controls on the back that are dirty and need cleaning (or possibly replacing). Also, listen carefully up close to each small driver to make sure it still works, as it wasn't that hard to burn one out. If the drivers all work, those old AR speakers can be amazing. Bass like you wouldn't believe! Taunt, powerful and deep. The biggest drawback is that they are inefficient and like a big amplifier.
All in all, they may very well be worth the effort of fixing up. Many people do just that these days. Few speakers have the cult status of old AR's, and for good reason. Many of them sounded excellent!
