>How do you think the EV's compare to others like JBL, Eminence and Altec? I've heard a lot of good things about each of these, seems like you can't go wrong with any of them. I guess it's implementation specific; That makes sense. But in general, what are your thoughts?<

Wayne,
It's been many years since I've heard an Altec, and that was a VOTT system. The only JBL's I've heard are PA systems in lousy settings. I've also only heard pro set-ups of Eminence drivers, so I can't really compare those, either. I've had several EV drivers, including SP-12c's, but even that's been about 8 years ago. I know all the EV's I've tried just blow away the Pioneer B20 8" fullrangers I had a couple of years ago. I also have a pair of Klipsch Heresy's which I have compared to the LS-12's, but not to the LS-8"s. The Heresy's are definatly 'faster' the the LS-12's, and I suspect are faster then the LS-8's, at least in the upper mids and treble. However, the coherancy and soundstage of both the 8's and 12's are better then the Heresy's. The LS-8's give me more of an impression of real musicians in the room with me. None of them are perfect (what speaker is). I just find the compromises of the fullrange drivers are more to my overall taste the the Heresy's are, with the LS-8's being noticably better then the LS-12's. Choosing between the LS-12's and the LS-8's is easy. Choosing between the Heresy's and LS-8's would be a much harder choice, but I think I'd go with the LS-8's.
BTW, I have recently made arrangements to sell my Heresy's and they are all boxed up and ready to ship, so I won't be able to make any direct comparisons.

Dave :^)
