Not necessarily. Bass isn't the only issue. If a single driver speaker can't pump out realistic SPLs in the frequency range required for kick drums and electric bass, which is 40hz and above, adding a sub below that isn't going to help. Sure, you will have more extension, but as long as you run the single driver wide open and sans a xover, you haven't addressed the issue of rock/metal at full throttle.
