My advice would be to purchase more than one of whatever you choose. By placing a few bass sound sources around the room, you can make bass response smoother. The peaks and dips caused by standing waves in the room are averaged out - where a valley in response from one sub lies, a peak forms from another to average out the field. This works great in bars and other small and medium sized rooms where direct radiating subs like you've asked about would be most appropriate.

Outdoors or in very large rooms like theaters and auditoriums, I'd suggest using basshorns grouped together. That's an entirely different situation, where you need more acoustic power. You also wouldn't want to spread them around like you would in a smaller room. Outdoors, it's better to group the subs together.
