"Shrill/glassy/digital" sounds like bad CD (most of them) to me. I do have some good sounding CD's but not that many. I usually evaluate equipment with records where I have many great recordings.

By the way, the CD layers of the new Rolling Stones SACD's are very good. You don't have to have a SCAD to enjoy them and I have the original Londons to compare.
