I do think though that headphones are more risky in the ear damage department. To my experience there is a limit as to how loud you wanna play, especially in smaller rooms - they simply cannot 'carry' the volumes of loud systems. The sound becomes distorted even if the equipment in itself is perfectly capable of delivering that loudness undistorted.

I hope your son (& you) will have much pleasure from your new speakers - as I said, he's lucky to have you as a father!
