Re: active or passive

I've been working on an active crossover for months and I finally
finished it over the weekend. Right now, I'm driving one of
the two JBL 3677s's I got. I kludged a Klipsch plate amp into
playing bi-amp duty just to try everything out. While certainly
not ideal, its actually turned out very well. I love the active
crossover compared to the passing one I was using. What's really
cool is that I included what amounts to a balance knob for left
and right that pans between the low and high output. This allows
for easy, instant efficiency balance between the horn and bass
drivers. It really does need the HF compensation like Wayne's
passive crossovers includes. Overall, as a proof of concept, its
a success. For the "real thing", I need to fab a circuit board
and find a nicer chassis, etc. The plate amp is OK, but a true
hi-fi amp set would be nicer. Hell, I have all this as my garage
system because its too big and ugly to fit in the house, but that's
another story.
