I agree with you on the Alpha 8 and Alpha 10. They're great little parts for the money, and very versatile. Frequency response is good, efficiency is high and power handling is over 100 watts, so they have a pretty wide dynamic range. They won't become taxed on crescendos like more delicate speakers might.

The Alpha 8 isn't going to hit the deepest low notes, but it sounds great down to 60Hz or 80Hz. With a sub they're great. They'll surprise you in a very small room or a car too, cabin gain removes the need for a sub. They're perfect in cabinets from 0.7ft3 to 2.0ft3 tuned to 55Hz.

The Alpha 10 is good too, and reaches down below 40Hz easily in a larger cainet. It is best in cabinets between 1.5ft2 and 5.5ft3. This one doesn't need a sub and, in fact, could be used as an inexpensive sub. In a 5.5ft3 cabinet tuned to 35Hz, it is flat down to 35Hz f3.
