After drawing this out, full size, this makes an angle just shy of 90 degrees and it mates exactly with the side pieces at their 14.5" cut. If I were to actually make the top and bottom pieces sides 11" long the angle becomes extremely obtuse. Well over 90 degrees, something more like 120 degrees. And the axis winds up being less than 6". So, the axis must be 11", right?
