well its complete! -my 40hz basshorn (practise one for the 8" wooferglued it lastnite.
Subjective sound=
quieter than expected
Very nice quality! When i stand infront of the mouth my clothes buzz and move.inside the horn (where i put my head in,on occasion) is high SPL!
inroom it seems alot quieter, and not much more louder than my ported box version - but i have no SPL meter at the moment(poor until later)
I have a large bassment underneath my house, with just wooden floorboards. My listening room is tiny,at 2.2m x 4m or so and low ceiling of about 2.2m.
Also i was thinking= running at 20watts rms(my amp for now),near the woofers RMS rating= Compression effects.and being a cheap nasty woofer,it may have HEAPS of compression ! so i wont be achieving that 117db that hornresp shows due to this. But if i slapped a lab12 with adjusted throat size,i would
hehe.Overall its good.I learned a good lesson in it also-when assembling the flare,to make sure its in the right position, screw on Side on,to be sure the flares in the right place as you glue it.because when it came to glueing the first Side on,the screws around the outside of the box worked fine, but the flare was displaced by about 5-9mm ,so some screws went right through, into thin air-multiple screws on the sides=ugly=and u need luck to hit the wood on the other side ;-)
i knew this horn would be good practise -practicalish wise. Was kinda stressful as the glue had already set by the time i had screwed down that side, with glue,so i just had to carry on,and guess where the screws would go on the otherside.
Also another technique would be to screw the sides on,and draw the flare with pencil on the insides, then swap the sides over, and u know where the flare is...aslong as it doesnt move while u switch them :-D
stressful stuff..
Cant wait for the lab12 woofer! low compression at NORMAL power ! yayay
Well actualy id love to make a BIG mouth version ,probably 2-3x the area, if it models wellCheers people
