I wouldn't change this dimension by an appreciable amount. You really don't want them to be too close or make the side orifice too small. You can fudge it some, but not enough to make the cabinets appear any less deep. But really, when you get these things pushed back in the corners, they don't seem to be all that deep. Make a mock up with cardboard and you'll see what I mean.
