There's no reason why you have to use it with an 18" woofer, but one of the big advantages of going with a larger CD is a lower crossover frequency, which means you can use a larger diameter woofer with more displacement to fill in the bottom end. The other mode of thinking is to impliment them like you would a 1" exit compression driver and reap the benefits of reduced IM distortion and more potential from the larger driver.Adam
