I'd really like for you to bring those over sometime soon, maybe one at a time. We'll have more cookouts and we can check them out. The local audio club is definitely gonna like having you in our midst too. I hope you will join us.
The other night, we just played Diana Krall, which is nice and all, pretty and sultry. Good background music, and nice to listen to. But we didn't have time to really check out other stuff. As I told you, I've liked art rock for years, music with a rock edge but definite classical roots. I've stocked my shelves with the full catalog of albums from Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant and the likes of them.
But I also like a lot of other music too. I have albums from about every classical writer and composer, performed by many 20th century symphonies and musicians. On the other end of the spectrum, I have a lot of pretty heavy stuff like Tool, and I listen to that kind of music a lot too. Depends on the mood, you know. Some of the best good time fun music is from the 50's and 60's, early rock when times were simpler. And I'm taking a liking to the vocalists of the same era, like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole and so many others like them.
Tonight, I'm listening to Pictures at the Exhibition, and I think I'll write something up. Forest Merrill brought a copy on CD at the last audio club meeting here in Tulsa, and I've been meaning to dust off my copies on vinyl and give them another listen, 'cause I haven't done that in a while. Do you remember Emerson, Lake and Palmer? They did a version and it was great. Hearing a symphony perform it is excellent too, so if you haven't heard a recording of "Pictures" conducted by Arturo Toscanini, you really must do that sometime.
